While the carefree Europeans were living their little ordinary lives, US Navy had to shoot down a malfunctioning spy satellite yesterday evening. This, however, is not the story we wanted to tell you. If you don’t know it already, then good chances are that you don’t care about it in the least.
We just wanted to share a good laugh at the CNN journalists’ choice of images used to cover this story (see here).
You can put yourself into their shoes, right? ” – Oh, we have to show them a menacing looking satellite! Have we got one? – There is this old footage about Sputnik, will it do? – No, it looks too old and not scarry enough. – What about this one, George? – Yeah, it looks big and shinny! Quite apocalyptic! – Let’s use it, then!”
Unfortunately, as Bad Astronomy has already noticed, “this one” was in fact the Hubble Space Telescope. Not a very bright idea, if you ask us. ๐
(Oh, I guess “English-mode” is ON)
I got a kick out of the clip on CNN :))
@jollyca: yep, now and then we turn it on, just to be sure we still have it ๐ glad u liked the clip! ๐
